Some thoughts on Lincoln Logs and America.

Found this little guy while I was out walking the dogs today and it immediately took me back to my childhood room. I could remember the smell as I opened the top of the cylinder and pour the brown & green pieces onto the ground and fanned them out as a picture emerged in my head. Then I would build. And destroy. And build. Eventually I would lose prices and have to build smaller things, not because I wanted to but because it’s what I had to work with. Now we are living that reality. Every 8 years a group of people, believing what they know is right, build. Then, after 8 years, another group comes into destroy it. Every time this happens we lose a little bit of what America is. We only have one. If you ask someone why they belong to a particular party they will give you 2 or 3 reasons. Those are just a few small pieces. Is it worth destroying not only America but they idea of what America is and can be. The people who run our country are looking out for themselves not the country. Don’t believe me? When you walk into work tomorrow, think about how important your job is to you. Next time you vote think about what really matters to you, as an American. Not the tent pole ideas that your political party uses to make you different than someone else. Think about what makes you the same. Let’s build something that is too great to tear down. Please.

50 days ago I weighed 285 pounds.

I have been overweight since the 4th grade.  I am 41.  Over the years I have tried different programs and have lost weight.  I tried Atkins and lost 30 pounds.  I was vegan for 6 months and lost 20.

Each time I gained the weight back.

The problem was that I was limited to what I could eat. I can go without carbs and meat  and chocolate for a while but when it comes to forever, forget it.

I think that I have found something that has worked for me. MyFitnessPal is an app for  iPhone and Android devices as well as a website.  This is how it works: You create an account and enter your statistics (hight, weight, age, sex, level of current activity) and how fast you wan to lose the weight and based on that information MFP tells you how many calories you can have.  And for me that is the beauty of the program.  I can eat whatever I want as long as I don’t go over my daily allotment.

50 days Know I know that this is nothing new.  You want to lose weight, eat less.  But MFP is almost like a game.  And everyday you want to win. As you enter the food you eat you watch your remaining calories dwindle.  Enter some exercise and you “earn” more calories.

At the end of each day, MFP tells you how much you would weigh in 5 weeks and you ate and exercised like today.  5 weeks ago I to a screen shot and wrote that number down.

267

Today is 5 weeks later, and guess what. I weigh 267 pounds.  I’m sold.

According to last night’s log-in I will weigh 254 pounds in 5 weeks. (I had ice cream yesterday so I’m hoping for more!)

Check back in 5 weeks and see.
