Quiet on the set!

Oh happy days. I will be off for spring break in two weeks. (You gotta love teaching!) What makes it better is the fact that my buddy Brian will be producing an independent movie and I get to spend a few days on the set.

It’s actually a cool set-up; he and another guy are both making a film and they will shoot them back-to-back and produce each other’s film. Brian and I go back a ways and I wrote my first screenplay with him. I also produced and appeared in it. ( I really can’t use the word “acted.”)

I have always admired Brian for following his dream of becoming a filmmaker and this will be his 6th or seventh feature film. And if that isn’t enough for you, he is also in a band. He’s such a go-getter.

It’s about damn time!

Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching, but it is hard living the PC lifestyle at home and having to work in the Mac world. The most difficult thing is Apple’s uni-button mouse.

Well, word is coming down the pike that Apple is developing a 2-button mouse.

I am from the right/left button world and it took me a whole stinkin’ year to realize that control + mouse was the same as the right mouse button.

Now, I must admit that I have grown to like the Mac, but I am far from becoming a convert but this whole 2-button mouse thing may push me over the edge.

Where did you say you went to school?

Actually, I haven’t.

Told you, that is.

I went to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where I earned a degree in English with an emphasis in education. Polytechnic, for those of you who don’t know means learn by doing. This, again, is what this blog is for.

I am currently enrolled in the DVD Bonus Material, Filmmaker’s Commentary School of Film. That is, to say, that I watch DVD’s, over and over again. I watch them and listen to the different commentaries so that I can learn a thing or two about a thing or two. Some commentaries are horrible but, for the most part, they are very informative.

I also read. There are some great books and websites out there to help filmmakers. I was actually stuck on my current script when I found John Rogers’ blog . He has some great ideas about screenwriting.

Finally, I write. I write everyday, either here, on paper, or I work on screenplays.

Thanks for askin’.

Mc’scuse me?

So, I hear that McDonalds is going to outsource their drive-thru window. Really? There are few things that are more annoying than phone trees. You know, push 1 for English, dos por Espanol.

I have called companies where you never get a human and when you do they are not even in the same state as the last human you talked to.

Now it seems that the Golden Arches are going to utilize out-of-state call centers to run their drive-thru windows. So what, you say? Are you dead inside? Why can’t I talk to the person in front of me? Or on the other end of the phone for that matter?

McDonalds claims that this will improve quality control and wait time, isn’t the drive-thru window a promotion? Are you telling me that the top of the food chain at McDonalds can’t get my order right? What’s next? Is this the end to all human contact? I can see a day when we will walk into McDonalds and press a button to order our food. We won’t even see a person in the restaurant (and I use that term loosely).

Now, I realize that most people will not care about this as long as their fries are hot but I say that we must stand up for human interaction!

That’s all. I’ll put the soapbox away.

Here We Go

Well, here we are. I have always wanted to be a writer. I have pages of stories that I want to tell. I have started books and screenplays. I say “started” because I have yet to finish one. And that is where this blog comes in. This blog is more for me than you (sorry). It is like a journal—only girls keep diaries. I am writing this to kick myself in the butt. Some witty chap once said that the hardest part of being a writer is all the paperwork. I now know what he means.

I am currently working on a screenplay that has been a work in progress for about three years. I have been a full-time husband, parent, student and employee. Well, school is done, which leaves some time to write. I will write here to track my progress.

So, if you are reading this, you either wandered over here by accident or I have actually finished something and am looking for an agent.

Either way, enjoy.
